Social Networking is a huge part of our daily lives and our educational experiences. The article "Social Networking in Undergraduate Education" explains how technology can be extremely effective in the classroom as it helps different learners learn. However social networking impacted my coaching career at the high school level. We had a team of moms that wanted to upload photos, schedules, results, and events that got the community involved. For instance, we had a game time change and we uploaded the new time via twitter and on our site to let the parents know in a quick and easy way. Also the athletes got to share photos with friends and family of that "big game" they will reminisce in the years to come.
The article by Elon explained that people born in the early 90s are experiencing a revolutionary era on communicating. The article describes how everyday tasks are being challenged in different ways that result in good and bad. I agree with the article as is supports many strong points that youth struggle focusing on just one task. I find myself always checking my phone while driving and putting my life and others at risk. I admit that its a huge distraction, but our youth are always using social media and its a great way to connect to them in educating ways.
I decided to go with Scoop.it to get connected and suggestions with my interests in teaching physical education. I picked two topics which are physical education and TED talks that help relate advice and suggestions in my field of teaching. There are a variety of links to very useful information that will help me grow as a physical education teacher. Here is the link to my Scoop.it!
The internet has impacted my learning tremendously. This is by all of the resources the internet provides from researching a specific topic or just finding the definition of a word. Internet and learning are key components in education as technology has given educators to learn quick and easy. Specific sites I regularly visit are Google and Ebooks . I visit OSPI which is a educational site that has all of the resources the teacher needs in the state WA. The internet helps me learn because it is easy to access and certain resources that I am not going be able to find at my local library. Internet can be distracting because it provides just not educational sources, but sites that you can spend lots of money at and social media sites that connect you with your friends. Technology in learning is positive because it has allowed educators and students to learn from anywhere with online learning to technology that can be used in your classroom. This doesn't mean that it doesn't have its
While watching the video of Marcus Buckingham it shared how we need to improve our strengths and lessen the focus on our weaknesses. Some areas in my life and career that I feel that I am strong at are my level of confidence and leadership skills. I enjoy and feel that excitement and passion for teaching health and fitness everyday. There are some areas I feel that need improvement which are assessment and parent communication skills and that will come with experience in my field of work.
Microblogging is a short response and straight to the point statement. When microblogging about education, someone may tweet about positive or negative experiences they have had. It is a good way to update the public in their own perspective about their experiences. However tweeting about athletics can be different because you can follow a team or athlete and receive recent updates of the score or life activities that athlete enjoys. It is a very personal way of sharing your experiences or views to the public.
Personal Web Page does a good job of representing someone in a personal and professional way. I haven't spent much time on a personal web page, but I have enjoyed how the site is user friendly and very complex at the same time. I believe the site could be improved by making the icons on the left when building your site by a "click" instead of a "drag". When looking over the examples presented on Moodle they are both personal and professional by sharing about themselves and their strengths in the work field. Both individuals do a good job of naming their categories and the ones I would change are the layout and theme of the site.
My name is Drew Jensen I am currently an Elementary level Physical Education Specialist in the Renton School District in Seattle, WA. I completed my studies at Northwest University, where I also played collegiate soccer. After competing at the collegiate level, I was fortune enough to be scouted by the Colorado Rapids of the MLS and was invited to their combine. After spending a short time in Colorado, I began coaching and substitute teaching and truly enjoyed the love and passion it brought into life, which led me to begin my teaching and coaching career. I was offered a physical education job in 2013 and gladly hung up my boots in order to start a new chapter in my life.
Outside of teaching and coaching, I love to spend time with my family and my girlfriend, Mary, who are my biggest support systems. I try to live a very active lifestyle by exercising daily: running 5k’s is the newest activity; but one of my favorite outdoor activities is to go hiking with my girlfriend and our two dogs, Addie the Pitbull and Bug the Pug, because you’re able to witness all of God’s beautiful creations.
