Social Networking

Social Networking is a huge part of our daily lives and our educational experiences.  The article "Social Networking in Undergraduate Education" explains how technology can be extremely effective in the classroom as it helps different learners learn.  However social networking impacted my coaching career at the high school level.  We had a team of moms that wanted to upload photos, schedules, results, and events that got the community involved.  For instance, we had a game time change and we uploaded the new time via twitter and on our site to let the parents know in a quick and easy way.  Also the athletes got to share photos with friends and family of that "big game" they will reminisce in the years to come.

The article by Elon explained that people born in the early 90s are experiencing a revolutionary era on communicating.  The article describes how everyday tasks are being challenged in different ways that result in good and bad.  I agree with the article as is supports many strong points that youth struggle focusing on just one task.  I find myself always checking my phone while driving and putting my life and others at risk.  I admit that its a huge distraction, but our youth are always using social media and its a great way to connect to them in educating ways.

That is such a great idea to use social networking like Twitter to inform parents of game changes, announcements, and game scores. As a coach, I would love to implement this in my program as well. I also agree that there are pros and cons with technology and teenagers. They can become distracted and lazy, but they can also use technology for learning and exploring.
